After his recent arrival in Dagestan, Islam Makhachev was greeted by his people. He also responded to various questions from the media. The two-division UFC champion gave the welterweight division high marks and described how exciting it is with so many up-and-coming and elite prospects.
Makhachev believes the next challenger for the welterweight title will be clear in the next two weeks. He said:
“I think we have the most active division in the UFC right now [UFC 322] event, two boys [Carlos Prates and Michael Morales] were fighting, and they both won by a finish. Yesterday we also had a good fight, former champion fought against young prospect. In the next two weeks it will become clear who the next challenger will be.”

Makhachev made his welterweight debut at UFC 322 earlier this month, dethroning champion Jack Della Maddalena in dominant fashion. While fans want the P4P king to fight Ilia Topuria next, the promotion may have other plans for now. The Russian has therefore stated that he will fight whichever opponent the UFC puts him in, but if given the option, he would like to face former champion Kamaru Usman.
Islam Makhachev is not impressed with Ian Machado Garry’s performance in UFC Qatar
Ian Machado Garry played alongside Belal Muhammad at UFC Qatar last weekend. The Irishman had plans to eliminate ‘Remember the Name’. However, he couldn’t find a punch that ended the fight. But with precise striking, constant forward pressure and impeccable takedown defense, ‘The Future’ took control of most of the fight and earned a unanimous decision victory. In the aftermath, he has called Islam Makhachev, who was also present in the arena.
After landing in Dagestan, Makhachev gave his opinion on the Dubliner’s performance. He said:
“He’s a good fighter. He didn’t surprise me yesterday. If he surprised the UFC, he’ll be next.”
