Islam Makhachev is an elite hunter, but can his chin resist Jack della Maddalena’s opinion?
The coach of Maddalena, Ben Vickers, does not seem convinced. Makhachev has left the UFC Lightweight Championship to challenge Maddalena for the welter weight gold on UFC 322 in New York City. The title fight is planned on November 15.
“JDM” recorded the 170-pound hardware by beating the teammate of Makhachev, Belal Muhammad, in May. Appear Submission radioVickers suggested that Mohammed has a more sturdy chin than Makhachev (H/T Inappropriate).
“I just don’t think Islam has the chin that Belal has,” Vickers told Submission Radio. “We know for sure that if Jack cleans someone on the chin, they can continue. So it can happen in the first minute, it can happen in the 24th minute, it can come in three rounds. Jack likes long fights. He likes to be there, but we are clearly not paid for overtime hours.
“So if the opportunity occurs, we are happy to take it. But Jack’s Cardio as we saw-belt is said to be the best cardio in the UFC and Jack Out-Cardio’d him. Belal was more tired than Jack by the end of the fight. Jack’s cardio is exceptional. I really love the fight.”
Makhachev has only been eliminated once in his career and it has been his only defeat so far. The loss took place in October 2015. Makhachev was concerned with the will of Dustin Poirier before he went to his bread and butter with the wrestling. Some claim that the size of Maddela could cause problems for the former lightweight champion.
It is a strict test for Makhachev, which is a gambling favorite that goes into the Welterweight title fight in Madison Square Garden. Time will tell how many Maddalena can test the Kin van Makhachev.
