The Senior PGA championship is almost here, with the longest-running large championship that returns to the Congressional Blue course. The event, which took place from May 22, started in 1937 in Augusta National Golf Club. Now it contains an annual elite group of experienced golfers who hold the titles of World Golf Hall of Fame, Ryder Cup Captains, Major Champions, among others. However, the question remains: does the championship of this second senior major have a reduction?

Most PGA Tour Champions events have no cut after two rounds for two reasons: the fields usually consist of 78 players, and the events are usually 54-hole competitions, which promote a Go-Lage Shootout and fluidity of the rankings. The exceptions are three of the five major championships, including the Senior PGA championship, which have a cut of 36 holes. That in turn means that not all the current veteran field plays the weekend rounds at the Senior PGA championship.

Accordingly, not all current 156 players at the Congressional Blue course have an equal opportunity to take over the leaderboard about the two rounds of the second senior major. The Stroke Play event will have $ 3.5 million as the total wallet, with the winner receiving $ 630,000. However, the players who miss the cut also receive a salary if they miss the cut.

That means that the second senior major has a cutline of 36 holes. Which in turn means a more solid competition between golfers to compete for the $ 3.5 million wallet. However, the Congressional Blue Course event will move to the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton next year. Here, however, are some of the golfers for which you have to look out at the Senior PGA championship.

Golfers to pay attention to the Senior PGA championship

Richard Bland is the defending champion after he finished 17-under par in the tournament last year. He started strongly with a seven-under 64 in the first round, but was confronted with a tough third round with a three-over 74. However, he bounced back with an impressive eight-under 63 in the final round to win with three shots.

A surprising but strong name to pay attention is Jim Carter, who makes his 9th performance at the Senior PGA championship. He finished T-57 in the 2024 event in Harbor Shores and T-26 in the Senior PPC 2024, which earned him a place in the Senior PGA Championship 2025. Moreover, Carter also participated in 78 PGA Tour Champions events, which made 72 cuts.
