Former UFC world champion Kamaru Usman has cast doubt on the promotion’s planned White House event.
This summer, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is reportedly planning to host an event at the White House. It looks set to be one of the most talked-about UFC shows of all time, with US President Donald Trump suggesting there will be plenty of championship fights.
With about five months to go until the planned showcase, questions are already being raised about what the event will actually look like. Will there be a purpose-built arena? Will UFC boss Dana White dare to organize an outdoor event? No one really knows the details, but we imagine we’ll learn more about it over time.
In one recent episode from his podcast alongside Henry Cejudo, Kamaru Usman gave his thoughts on UFC White House.
Kamaru Usman’s take on UFC White House
“But other than that, Henry. We’re still talking about this. They’re still talking about this map of the White House. There’s still a lot of talk about it. But the more you think about it, Henry, does this sound like a good idea? Like, Henry, first things first: [expletive] you’re right. I don’t like it, it seems like it’s too much. Way too much.
“I’m like, dude, just keep fighting. Like, bro, first, this is why they asked me: Kamaru, yeah, do you want to fight in the White House? I’m like, no, not really, but I want to go there. Like, I want to be there. This is how I want to be [expletive] hang out, brother. I’m not trying [expletive] Right, you know, be the entertainer there. You know what I mean? I’m trying to be entertained.”
“First of all, they say it won’t even be open to the public. So there’s some kind of asterisk next to that. But then they’re talking about six, seven title fights. First of all, Henry, pardon my French, but whoever the [expletive] do you want to see seven title fights in a row, or five-round title fights? What if the four, five or six in a row are boring?”
