Is buying this Pontiac Solstice from 2006 a clear idea for $ 8,450? – Jalopnik

The seller of today’s great price or no dice Solstice describes itself as ‘motivated and responsive’. Let’s see if they have priced their Pontiac to make us feel the same about the potential sale of it.

Apart from language differences, it is a challenge to distinguish between the sentences “that go the extra mile” and “things go too far”. One has a positive connotation, while the other is often offered as a conviction. Both, however, retain comparable sufficient contexts that can confuse them unknown with English language constructions.

It could be said that the maker of the Chrysler PT -Cruiser Marilyn Monroe -Tribute -car from 2003 that we looked at yesterday went one step further when adjusting the car. Likewise, the daring and exaggerated presentation of the car can also be seen as too far. To see? It works both sides. What didn’t work was the result. At least that was the collection meal of the comments. For $ 6,500, the Pinup PT was also addicted to the price department, as evidenced by the loss of 65% ‘No Dice’ that the suffering.

The solstice takes place twice a year and marks the northernmost and southernmost explanation of the Sun of the Heavenly Quator. Pagan traditions in old Europe celebrated the winter solstice, usually referred to as Yule, as a day of rebirth after the longest night of the year. It seems that the Pontiac brand of General Motors used the name for its two-sitting Roadster, introduced for the model year 2006, because it had previously used the names Firebird and Phoenix, both derived from historical legends about rebirth and renewal.

That was a shame, because despite his clear defects (almost zero trunk space, no Miata), the solstice was and is a pretty neat small car. However, it is very unlikely that it or his Pontiac parent will ever get out of the axis in a phenik way.

The Solstice, together with his Saturn Sky, Opel GT and Daewoo G2X production line brothers and sisters (all also RIP), was built on a brand new platform that GM Kappa has designated. It was intended to support a whole series of different cars, but the economy and the general preference of the market for cross -overs about small cars destroyed that plan.

That was less a consideration at the end of 2005, because GM had enough trouble to inform only the Kappa production -Line of what was perhaps the most interesting new cars that the company had produced in a long time.

This 2006 Pontiac Solstice is one of the first 1,000 that rolls from that mounting line, as the board is to wear it on its dashboard. Because this is a first runauto, this is not the later GXP edition and therefore contains the naturally extracted 2.4-liter 16-valve Ecotec four-cylinder engine instead of the smaller 2.0 turbo unit. That means 177 hp instead of 260, and also less torque. On the positive side, the Ecotec is linked to a manual five -speed gearbox in this car, instead of a nice machine.

Other factors in favor of this solstice are his “cunning” steel gray paint that looks in excellent condition, a two -tone gray and beige interior with leather seats, and a top that seems to be in a new state. The large overall form of the car reflects its low 48,500 mileage, and what the advertisement claims is a history of ‘beautifully maintained’. As a result, the seller classifies the car as in excellent condition and claims that he is a 100% turnkey driver.

Unlike yesterday’s heavily modified Chrysler, everything about this solstice seems to be in the factory. The alloy wheels are non-broken and wear rubber with a lot of tread. The cabin fits with a car of its age and shape and is somewhat bare bones, without a middle pile screen in favor of a CD -Sereo. The windows and ditches are driven, but the seats and the top are both operated manually, whereby the last of the driver has to get out of the car and open the boot lid for his increase and lower.

There are a large number of solar windscreens (Solsti?) On the market, and there is also a pretty solid fan base that supports it. Another factor is that GM has robbed the parts bin for many of the functions and powertrain of the model, so replacements are available both cheaply and immediately.

This is also available for $ 8,450. However, the question is whether that is logical expenses, or that a similar priced and spec’d Mazda MX-5 might not be a better bargain.
