Is Nashville the only team that could make a coaching change?
Dave Pagnotta of The Fourth Period was on TSN Radio in Montreal and was asked which coach was ranked number one this season. All signs point to it Andreas Brunette with the Nashville Predators.

Host: “Dave, Campbell and I a little earlier we’re counting down the power rankings, the top five coaches at the highest spot in the National Hockey League. And you know, Campbell and I, we rarely disagree on things when we got to one, when we got to one it narrowed it down. We both landed on Andrew Burnette as being in the hottest spot in the league. What do you think?”
Dave Pagnotta: “He would be the hottest, and honestly probably the only one whose seat is hot. He has one year left on his contract. Barry Trotz has said repeatedly over the last two weeks or ten days that, at least to the local media, he is not considering a coaching change at this time. He also indicated that he has no desire to return behind the bench as head coach, perhaps as an interim team for the rest of the season, maybe he would consider it, but for now he’s not really considering a coaching change.
NHL Rumors: Tristan Jarry is available, but the Edmonton Oilers are reportedly concerned about injuries
Nashville’s roster construction is a mess, so that’s what they need to focus on. So I understand that. Plus another year of contract, another head coach, you have to pay him. When you have all these other changes you need to make, there’s only so much you can throw in the coach’s direction.
Toronto is not making a coaching change right now. (Craig) Berube has two years left on his contract. Ryan Huska just signed a two-year extension with the Flames. Excuse me, he’s not going anywhere. Chris Knoblach signed a three-year extension in Edmonton. He’s not going anywhere. So you’re really limited in what you can do.
Some people thought, OK, if LA is faltering, then so be it Jim Hiller will he be a man to watch? And what do we see with LA? But the Kings are on a bit of a roll here and are, I think, in a playoff position at this point, or at least close, so all is well there. So really, you know, a lot of this and St. Louis doesn’t change Monty (Jim Montgomery) and so on and so forth.
So you look around the league and you say, Hmm, these teams that are good, what’s the common denominator? Oh, they’re grilles. Their attitude sucks. They don’t have enough depth. They don’t have this. Sometimes it’s management and GMs’ fault, and they have to sort things out.”
NHL Rumors: Which Veterans Could the Vancouver Canucks Actually Move?
NHL Rumors.com Note: Brunette seems the most likely candidate given the situation in Nashville. Again, no one knows what the problem is in Buffalo Lindy Roef. However, it looks like Barry Trotz is considering it, as he told 102.5 The Game in Nashville that all options are on the table. That includes a coaching change.
