A court here on Monday filed charges against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Bihar CM Rabri Devi and their son Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the state, in the alleged IRCTC scam case, paving the way for a pre-poll trial in Bihar.
Special Judge Vishal Gogne has filed joint charges of criminal conspiracy and cheating against Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav in the case, which stems from alleged irregularities in the award of operating contracts of two hotels of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to a private company.
The court also filed charges against Lalu Prasad under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
They have pleaded not guilty to the charges. A detailed order in the case is awaited.
Earlier on September 24, the court had directed all suspects to appear physically for the charge-sheeting order.
According to the CBI chargesheet, a conspiracy is alleged to have been hatched between 2004 and 2014 under which BNR hotels of Indian Railways, located in Puri and Ranchi, were first transferred to IRCTC and later, for their operation, maintenance and upkeep, were leased out to Sujata Hotels Private Limited, based in Patna, Bihar.
The tender process, the agency alleged, was rigged and manipulated and the terms and conditions were altered to benefit Sujata Hotels, a private entity.
The charge sheet also names group managing directors of IRCTC VK Asthana and RK Goyal, and Vijay Kochhar, Vinay Kochhar, both directors of Sujata Hotels and owners of Chanakya Hotel.
Delight Marketing Company, now known as Lara Projects, and Sujata Hotels Private Limited have also been named as accused companies in the chargesheet.
