The incident occurred just before the end of the opening session on Day 1 of the sixth round of the competition Ranji Trophy 2025-26 in Lucknow, when Veer was fielding mid-off and dived to his right to stop a well-timed shot from Jharkhand’s Shikhar Mohan. Although he managed to stop the hit, Veer landed awkwardly on his right shoulder and was seen holding the injured shoulder in visible discomfort.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Veer was immediately taken off the field and taken to hospital for scans after nothing positive could be drawn from the on-field treatment by the physio. On his return, his right arm was seen in a sling, suggesting the injury is more serious than initially feared. Early medical assessments indicate a grade 2 shoulder tear that could sideline him for at least three weeks, casting doubt on his fitness to play at the start of the IPL 2026.
Jharkhand dominated Uttar Pradesh at the crease to reach 312/3 as things stand on Day 2 with opener Sharandeep Singh scoring 139 runs with strong support from Shikhar Mohan (78) and Aryaman Sen (75).
Prashant Veer became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of the IPL
For those unfamiliar, the Uttar Pradesh cricketer became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history when CSK secured him for a staggering price of INR 14.20 crore at the IPL mini-auction ahead of the upcoming season. The record is shared between him and Kartik Sharmawhich was also purchased by the five-time champion for the same price.
The timing of the setback is not just a blow for Uttar Pradesh in their ongoing domestic season, as well as for the Chennai-based franchise.
