Ashburton records international armor races during the November meeting.
The “Emerging Talent” meeting that is held on the Thursday of Irt Nieuw -Zeeland Trotting Cup Week (November 13) will contain a $ 20,000 drivers -out -out rational race. It will be more than 1700 meters for 4YO mares (R35-44). It will have a maximum field of 12 (and one mood).
Already double New Zealand Cup-winning driver Cam Hart has indicated that he will be there. It only comes two days after the New Zealand Cup where he strives for a record-similar third consecutive New Zealand cup with Swayzee.
The 26-year-old is in great form about the Tasman, including a personal best six wins in Menangle (Sydney) last Saturday evening.
The race can also contain other global stars that will be here for the World Driving Championship that ends in Cup Day. The WDC will contain 10 of the world’s best drivers, including our own Blair Orange.
Invitations for the race are issued closer to the event as soon as it becomes clear who is available and would like to participate.
“We always want to innovate and improve our product and this will add value to what is already a very popular meeting,” says Ashburton Trotting Club president Peter Larkin.
The race will be an important part of Ashburton’s second “Emerging Talent” meeting someday during the Cup Week. The club traditionally had a cup week meeting, although it is different with a significant increase in interests and a renewed focus on attracting the best horses of the lower quality to the meeting.
Last year the meeting contained 14 races, with minimal interests of $ 17,000 and was praised as a huge success with a turnover of $ 1.6 million in the day.
The meeting is part of a huge double header for the Ashburton Club. In December it will host the first Harness 5000 where there will be 12 $ 60,000 finals.
