A Victorian cottage turned homewares shop and adjoining modern private home, complete with a separate rear entrance, offer the ultimate live-work option in Inverleigh, 30 minutes from Geelong.
But thirteen years ago it was a different story, say current owners Lisa and Ray Sarcevic.
“It was so overgrown that you no longer even knew the house existed,” Lisa explains. “But during a walk at the back of the building, something caught my eye.”
After the couple inspected the Victorian cottage, Lisa said the character, charm and location attracted them both.
“It is close to the river (Leigh), has two street frontages, everything was perfect and met all requirements.”
Despite the overgrown yard, the house was in good condition, making the minor upgrades to the cottage by Lisa and Ray easy.

The three-bedroom house at 8 High St, Inverleigh, is for sale with an expected price of $2.85 million.

The house offers the ultimate living-working opportunity.

The property is 30 minutes from Geelong.
“My husband and I made all the minor upgrades to this and used local professionals for electrical and plumbing,” she says.
The commercial portion of the property includes four flexible open plan spaces, a powder room and a separate office.
Although currently a homewares store, the cottage can be used for a variety of purposes.
The upgrade also included an extension, a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house.
“We wanted the extension to look as if it had been there from the outside at the same time as the original cottage,” says Lisa.
“We designed the extension ourselves because that is our professional background – I am an interior designer and my husband is in construction.”

The estate is located on half an acre.

The commercial part of the property includes four flexible open-plan rooms, a powder room and a separate office.

The upgrade also included an extension, a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house.
Internally, the house features modern design and quality craftsmanship with a spacious living room and high ceilings.
“In our home, key design components include high ceilings, a recycled red brick wall to the stairs and fireplace, polished concrete floors, ample storage, a generous butler’s pantry and a laundry room,” says Lisa.
“The design style is a bit of a mix, I guess you’d call it a modern, industrial farmhouse with high quality fixtures and fittings, raked beamed ceilings in the living room that extend through to the entertainment area and master bedroom.”
The property sits on a half-acre lot and includes two street frontages, separating the business from the home, Lisa says.
“Our backyard is steps away from the river and walking trails. Although we are also in the heart of the village, the location is perfect,” says Lisa.
Seka Powell of Stockdale & Leggo Belmont has put the house up for sale with a price guide of $2.85 million via expressions of interest.
