The huge Qbred Finals: Saturday evening in Albion Park could form next Interstate raids for the powerhouse Turpin/McMullen Harness Racing Barn in Queensland.
It has been a huge years for the stable, which stands second for Grant and Trista Dixon on both the Premierships of Queensland and Albion Park.
And the death factor in the shed continues to grow.
The exciting four -year appendix and even Stablemate Dele Row remain in the mix for a lock in the $ 2.1 million tab.
Furthermore, Pete McMullen said a trip to Victoria for a number of major races in October “remained an option.”
“This is a big weekend for us,” he said. “We come through this, reset and start from there.
“The tab is difficult. We should chase hard to try to come in and without guarantees.
“Victoria would be more likely, but that depends on a few of our young horses who are ready and racing well enough to go for the oak or derby in Melton.
“If we took a few for those races, we would probably take the caretaker for the Victoria Cup.
“But it is all waiting at the moment.”
McMullen, currently the leading driver of the state and Albion Park, said that the caretaker was potentially the best horse that he and Vrouw Chantal trained.
The caretaker has 13 wins and four seconds from just 23 starts, but has not been raced since a run -away victory in the 4YO championship in Albion Park on July 19.
It followed thumping in group 1 rising Sun and Kevin Thomas 4YO after all the work in those races.
“If he just developed a little more gate speed, he would be an all -round horse,” said McMullen.
“He gets better with that. He always got rough, but he always comes out better.
“We haven’t done much with him since the last victory, so we’re not in a hurry to make plans.”
