Intel wants to double down on gaming hardware with a new chip and platform for portable gaming devices.
The platform will include hardware and software, Intel vice president and general manager of PC products Daniel Rogers announced Monday at CES. It will be built on the company’s Intel Core Series 3 processors known as Panther Lake, which was announced last year and is now rolling out to several PCs.
This future platform contains a chip specifically for portable gaming devices, according to reporting from IGNwhich was confirmed by TechCrunch.
These Panther Lake chips are the first the company has built on it 18A production process, production of which started in 2025.
Intel is no stranger to the gaming industry and has been building chips for gaming PCs since the 1990s. The company leaned more heavily on gaming in 2022 with the release of its Intel Arc GPUs.
However, entering the handheld gaming space would be an interesting development as the market is currently dominated by AMD. AMD just announced in its CES keynote on Monday a new processor designed for gaming PCs, AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, in addition to new ray tracing and graphics technologies for gaming.
Rogers said Intel will share more details about its new portable gaming device products later this year.
