Newcastle 2 Spurs 0 – Wednesday 29 October 2025 8pm
Direct fan/writer response from some of our regular contributors to The Mag.
Nat Seaton:
‘What a great game of football and we came out on the right side with a deserved win.
Many changes, but our level has not dropped, special mention to our midfield maestro who was in top form after his illness.
Great to see big Nick getting another goal, and with his head!
Great times are coming, going to London on Sunday, I can’t wait!’
Simon Ritter:
‘We used our heads, first at Schar and then at Woltemade.
Joelinton lost his and could have picked up two yellow cards after fouling Kudus and then reacting when provoked. Thank goodness no VAR. We were well below our best against a team that until tonight was undefeated on the road this season.
Krafth, Willock and Elanga had a decent run-out, while Ramsdale made two top saves when the match was in the balance.
One concern was the inability to test stand-in goalie Kinsky. Only three attempts on target from 10 attempts.
We played the better football and took advantage of our chances, even though Spurs had twice as many on target.
Five wins from our last six games and another clean sheet. What’s not to like!’
Billy Miller:
‘Advancement to the quarter-finals again.
Something we have done every Carabao Cup campaign since Eddie Howe arrived.
The commentary mentioned a fantastic statistic showing that we have not gone behind in any Carabao Cup match since the 2023 final.
It never looked like we were going to lose this one.
Both teams made changes, but our strength in depth showed.
I loved seeing Woltemade win a header against a goalkeeper.
He is well on his way to a season with more than 20 goals in all competitions.’
GTone:
“We’re just starting to click into gear.
That was a very good team that we just beat.
Undefeated, but it never looked like they would achieve anything against the well-organised and determined Toon 11.
What a player Tonali is.
Some great passing and movement from our players.
Funny to see their players give up every 50/50 with BDB. Happy days.’
Matt Busby said…:
‘A victory achieved in defense of OUR trophy.
Sandro Tonali, take a bow. MOTM by a country mile.
There were some very good performances elsewhere, but let me mention Jacob Ramsey, who cleared everything up in the middle of the park.
Aaron Ramsdale was also excellent.
Tell me mom. Again!’
Greg McPeake:
‘Eddie Howe is once again showing his quality with eight substitutions and a Newcastle team playing his way.
Comfortable win if you play the Eddie way.
Tonali leads the show excellently from the first minute and big Nick is in charge.
Bring on West Ham and their Tinpot Stadium.’
The armchair fan:
‘COME IN!
Brilliant performance and a thoroughly deserved win.
Three wins in a row, happy days!’
David Punton:
Tony Mallabar:‘
“Everyone I met after the Fulham game was told the tracks were definitely nailed down tonight.
Now this is a different tone and a well-deserved victory.
Another mention goes to Tonali. I’ve seen better footballers in black than in white, but not since Johnathan Woodgate have I seen a player with so much time and space with a football.’
Jamie Smith:
‘That’s right, to be honest.
A good run for some less used players, a win that never seemed in doubt and a consistent confidence builder.
Add to that Liverpool’s departure and it’s been an exciting evening as we await the quarter-final draw…’
