Instant Newcastle United fan/writer reaction after Newcastle 2 Manchester City 1

Newcastle 2 Manchester City 1 – Saturday 22 November 2025 5.30pm

Direct fan/writer response from some of our regular contributors to The Mag.

Nat Seaton:

‘What a game!!

The REAL Newcastle turned up tonight and was brilliant.

We went toe to toe with them and earned all three points.

Our England full-backs are a joy to watch, what a future they both have, so good to have them back.

Special mention to Barnes and his two goals to win us the game.

Bring on Marseille…’

Billy Miller:

‘After the losses to Sunderland and Liverpool, it would be the perfect day if we could beat Man City.

We did it and apart from possession and shots, I thought we were well worth the win.

We created the better chances and on another day Woltemade could have scored a hat-trick.

Instead, Barnes was the hero with braces. One brilliant goal and one opportunistic goal.

The second goal, so important after a sloppy equalizer, which could have allowed us to capitulate and suffer defeat.

It only puts us back in fourteenth place, but we certainly have to have the confidence to make a run now.’

GTone:

‘It’s about time. Get in!’

Matt Busby said…:

‘That’s a scalp. Absolutely brilliant.

Both teams had chances, but we were the deserved winners.

So many contenders for MOTM, but it has to be Harvey Barnes with that brace.

Barnes will tear you apart again!’

David Punton:

‘I don’t think you can underestimate the importance of that victory.

We really needed that. A huge three points against that Man City team after a painful international break.

It was a great team effort and exactly what the manager needed.

Barnes brings goals to Newcastle.

Pep Guardiola was furious with the winning goal and was on the pitch to protest at full-time. Not happy. Thanks to Barnes, it was a nice finish. The VAR ruled him onside, leaving Pep with the feeling that a foul had been committed on the keeper.

For once we didn’t have to pay for other missed opportunities in the match.

The midfield was at its best again today. Joelinton was a powerhouse and Bruno led the game. Thiaw huge at the back – again.

Party tonight. We’ve moved up the table! ‘

The armchair fan:

‘Whoa! Party time! A thoroughly deserved victory after a brilliant performance.

The perfect result to kickstart our season. COME IN! ‘

Tony Mallabar:

‘What a result.

I always go to every game thinking we will win. But on social media this morning, a misguided SME wanted us to win because it would help one of their Champions League rivals lose points…

Oh, if Carlsberg were to use irony, they would lose to Fulham and even better, Luckypool would be beaten.”

Mark Jankowski:

‘Newcastle delivered the performance that was desperately needed and achieved no less than 3 points.

It was a tremendous effort that saw our entire team step up in a way they hadn’t done in weeks.

If we can harness that energy in the coming weeks, we will be back around the top 4 in no time!’
