Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen will be back in action ‘soon’

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is close to full fitness after a month-long injury absence, a timely boost for Liam Rosenior ahead of a crucial run of fixtures in both domestic and European competitions.

The Blues’ situation between the posts has remained largely stable throughout the campaign. Even after the management change, Robert Sanchez has remained the undisputed first choice, leaving Filip Jorgensen waiting in the wings.

Remember new hair

Jörgensen, who joined Chelsea for £20.7 million, got his first appearance under Liam Rosenior in the FA Cup tie against Charlton Athletic. He was later given another start in the Champions League match against Pafos, but an injury curtailed his evening at half-time, prompting Sánchez to intervene.

Earlier this month, Rosenior indicated the Danish stopper was nearing a return and expressed optimism he would be available for the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal. However, that recovery did not come in time.

As a result, Chelsea have turned to Teddy Sharman-Lowe to provide backup on matchdays, with Sánchez continuing to hold the gloves as the club’s first choice.

Boost

Speaking before Hull last week, the former Strasbourg manager said:

“Filip is not fully fit at the moment,” Chelsea’s head coach confirmed.

‘He is working very hard on his rehabilitation.

‘Teddy has had a very important loan at this stage of his career and he has also shown me very good things in training.

“So I don’t have to worry if we have to call on him.”

Jorgensen has now provided a positive update on his recovery, providing a timely boost for the next crucial three months.

After being sidelined for almost four weeks, the goalkeeper shared a short update via his Instagram story. His message read: ‘Rehab days, quickly back on the field 💪🏻’, offering reassurance about his progress.

The update follows reports that he almost played a role in the recent FA Cup match against Hull City. Although he was not in the squad that weekend, his latest update suggests a return could be imminent.

Although Rosenior has spoken positively about the Denmark international, immediate involvement seems unlikely. A more realistic chance for minutes could come in the FA Cup fifth round against Wrexham next month.
