Instagram is rolling out some new updates for the Reels cameramaking it easier to capture and edit your clips in-stream so you can post them on the go.
You can now also shoot longer videos via the camera, with 20-minute recordings now available in-stream.
As explained by IG:
“The Instagram Design Team has been working hard to incorporate your feedback and identify key areas for improvement, working with our product and research teams. From customizable adjustments to longer Reels, our new camera is more usable and has new features to help you create your next Reel.”
The biggest update here is the 20-minute recording extension, which Instagram says “enables more creative freedom and longer stories.”
Although you might want to consider whether it’s worth recording longer clips, given Instagram’s emphasis on shorter roles in the app.
Instagram has stated this repeatedly it will only recommend roles that are less than 3 minutes long. So while you can post longer videos, their distribution will be limited, due to Instagram’s preference for short videos, which are the driving force behind all engagement gains.
But if you want to post a longer clip, you can do that too, while you can also create longer clips in IG’s separate Edits app.
Instagram also makes it easier to edit multiple clips, with a simplified “Undo” option to remove your final clips from your project.
A new slider has also been added to control the intensity of the “Touch-Up” element, allowing you to better manage your video edits, updating the green screen experience, and improving the time and countdown tools at your disposal.
So a series of tweaks and updates designed to make it easier to create and edit your Reels within the app.
However, for more specific operations you can also refer to the Edited appwhich has many more tools and options to help you customize and create video clips.
