While the Edmonton Oilers are preparing for the 2025-26 season, contract interviews are warming up behind the scenes. Recently episode of Oilers nowBob Stauffer explained a scenario in which the team could complete the extensions for various important players, including Vasily Podkolzin, Jake Walman, Mattias Ekholm, head coach Kris Knoblauch and Connor McDavid.
The Front Office seems aimed at securing its core well before the training camp. But what kind of contracts will each player sign, and how does its value form the long -term cap photo of the oilers?

“Let’s say by August 28, that’s a Thursday, a month from today, I could provide a scenario where extensions are done on podkolzin, Walman, Ekholm … Oh, and McDavid. So I’m not going, Seravalli and I both said Kris Knoblauch.”
Stauffer also noted that Brett Kulak would make a decision. Stauffer said he was driving Gerry Johannson (Kulak’s agent) this week and would have a much better idea of where those contract discussions are.
What kind of contract does every oil law sign?
Every player mentioned by Stauffer plays in the last season of their current contract. Each is open to re -signing with the oilers and the team wants to keep it as much as possible. The question is which type of deal each is offered and drawing.
For McDavid, the longer the better. The oilers can also try to make Jake Walman ink on a long -term contract to save money on his annual average salary.
When it comes to Mattias Ekholm, the expansion may be shorter given its age and recent problems with injury. Podkolzin is a player who likes the oilers, but will he receive a deal in the longer term such as Trent Frederic, who has received a long -term deal as the cap rises? Or do the oilers remain hesitant until they know exactly what they have? Kulak is a solid player, but probably no more than five or six on the depth card of the blue line of the oilers.
