Yesterday we reported that about four teams were in the mix for Rasmus Andersson, making their respective attempts to acquire him via trade. Among those teams are the Boston Bruins, Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars and, surprisingly, the Vancouver Canucks.
On Saturday, Darren Dreger didn’t report all four teams, but he did confirm that it appears there are still four franchises in the hunt.
He notes:
“Things can develop quickly. However, sources say there are still four teams in the mix for Flames Dman, Rasmus Andersson. Two teams in the East and two in the West. Boston and Vegas are strong contenders. Unless there is progress, there is a decent chance Andersson plays for Cgy today.”
Dreger did say he doesn’t believe the Detroit Red Wings are in the mix.
The Bruins appear to remain the leaders in pursuit of Andersson, with several less trusted outlets reporting that the trade has already occurred. The Empty Netters podcast posted”There is a lot of interest in Rasmus Andersson, but it looks like Boston has won the race. An extension will be part of the deal that will be incredible for both parties. Stay tuned.”
Is the Bruins deal for Andersson actually completed?
Meanwhile, Jimmy Murphy has been following the conversation between Rasmus Andersson and Boston. His latest updates listed:
“Apologies for the late night/early morning update, but I fell asleep around 10pm and missed a message. I heard from the same source who said the #NHLBruins were on Andersson over no extension, that Andersson had a change of heart, and that he, the Bruins and #Flames ‘are now on the same page.’ For those asking why Andersson is changing his mind, remember that the #NHLBruins have two of his former teammates, Zadorov and E. Lindholm, to help him recruit. Furthermore, they are an improved team that still includes Swayman, McAvoy and Pastrnak, as well as the youth in Minten and soon Hagens.”
Joe Haggerty writes: “Andersson absolutely fills the Bruins’ need as a top-4 righty. He’s playing 24 minutes a night and has managed to be an asset for a terrible Calgary team. You’d suspect that Mason Lohrei should be part of the trade for several reasons.”
If a trade is close, you have to wonder if the Flames will keep Andersson out of the lineup against the New York Islanders.
