Before becoming a homeowner, the John Wick star lived out of hotels and short-term rentals, even calling Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles his home for four years.

“Sounds quite bohemian and gypsy, doesn’t it?” he joked about his lifestyle in 2010.

“I now only have one bag and smaller rooms in hotels.”

Reeves’ Devil’s Advocate co-star Charlize Theron admitted she was baffled by his living arrangements, but felt he was ready to change.

She told Rolling Stone, “When we started making this movie, I asked if he was still living in a hotel, and he said, ‘No, I’m ready to put down some roots somewhere.’

“I think he said, jokingly, something like, ‘You know, the kid, the horse, the dog… and the woman.’ The woman last.

In 2003, Reeves bought his first property in the exclusive Hollywood Hills enclave of Los Angeles for almost $5 million ($A7.5 million).

The house is currently valued at $8.7 million ($A13.1 million).

According to Realtor, the two-bedroom condo has a three-car garage, a pool complete with a BBQ/lounge area.

The home, which Reeves now shares with his partner Alexandra Grant, is in a highly sought-after area where he shares zip codes with stars like Leonardo DiCaprio.

The purchase of the Speed ​​star’s property came after a series of devastating personal tragedies.

In 1999, his then-girlfriend Jennifer Syme gave birth to their daughter a month early, but the baby, named Ava, was stillborn.

The grief was too much for the couple’s relationship; they broke up not long after and reunited in 2001.

Syme, 28, was reportedly struggling with depression the night she drove her Jeep into a row of parked cars in Los Angeles on April 1, 2001. Page six reports.

She died instantly and investigation revealed that she was drunk at the time of the wreck.

“If Ava’s death wasn’t devastating enough, he would have considered Jennifer his soulmate,” a colleague said of the actor. “He had some seriously dark days after that.”

A grief-stricken Reeves carried her casket as she was buried next to their daughter.

The Point Break actor spoke about his tragic losses to Parade magazine in 2006.

“Grief changes shape, but it never ends. People have the misconception that you can deal with it and say, ‘It’s gone and I’m better’. They’re wrong. When the people you love are no longer there, you’re alone,” he told the newspaper.
