Infantino Says FIFA Coin Under Review During Trumps’ Mar-a-Lago Crypto Promo – Inside World Football

February 23 – FIFA president Gianni Infantino has once again floated the idea of world football launching its own cryptocurrency, telling an audience in Florida that the organization is studying the creation of a ‘FIFA token’ or ‘FIFA coin’.

Infantino was speaking at the World Liberty Forum at Mar-a-Lago, the private home of friend and US President Donald Trump, when he outlined the concept.

“We are also studying the development of a FIFA token and a FIFA coin – a real potential global currency serving six billion football fans worldwide,” Infantino said.

It is not the first time that FIFA’s president has publicly linked football’s governing body to crypto ambitions. He previously referenced the idea during an appearance at a White House crypto summit last year, although no formal roadmap or timeline has been presented thus far.

The proposal is seen as exploratory rather than threatening, especially given the volatility that continues to surround the digital asset sector.

The Mar-a-Lago event was organized in part by his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. which was also a showcase for the Trump family’s own crypto initiative World Liberty Financial.

Infantino’s latest appearance in the Trump family has drawn a lot of attention for its political optics. The International Olympic Committee confirmed it will take no action against Infantino – an IOC member – following questions about a possible breach of political neutrality rules linked to FIFA’s consistent and unapologetic involvement in Trump-related initiatives.

In a brief statement, the IOC said the matter was closed and that FIFA’s development activities in Gaza fell under the jurisdiction of an international sports federation. But there was no mention of the FIFA cryptocurrency and speculation was rife that FIFA would collaborate with Trump and his family on its launch.

Infantino’s presence in Palm Beach took place against a tense backdrop. Just days later, an armed individual was fatally shot by Secret Service agents after a breach of the same property at Mar-a-Lago.

Either way, the headline remains the same: FIFA, already navigating the most complicated World Cup operation in history, is now openly exploring whether digital currencies can be part of its future ecosystem. Whether this will develop into a tangible product – or remain a rhetorical and political positioning – is unclear for the time being.
