‘Indians chased him’: US tech behind ‘imagine the fragrance’ comments opens up amid outrage – The Times of India

Nik Pash, the American techie who drew the ire of social media after making a pointed comment about Indian techies being stinky, has been fired from his company Cline. Cline founder and CEO Saoud Rizwan initially defended Nik, claiming that the comment was a general comment about what crowded hackathon rooms smell like and that it was not against any race, but he caved to the social media outrage and announced that Nik Pash was no longer with the company. But Saoud Rizwan deleted all his social media posts, including the post announcing Pash had been fired, and deleted his X account of all posts related to the controversy, while Pash opened up about his firing. Pash expressed his gratitude and love for his team, saying that no one in his team deserved what happened to them. “I don’t know what will happen next, but I intend that it will resolve positively for everyone involved, especially my team,” wrote Nik Pash without touching the issue of the controversy.

Nik Pash’s dismissal sparked fresh social media outrage against Indians as they said Nik Pash was fired due to Indian outrage. “Why are we letting these people into our country?” wrote one. “Is this the first major hate crime hoax in India? I think so!” another wrote.Meanwhile, some other Cline members were also called out for racism and many began threatening not to do business with Cline. “A few days ago, a tweet from our Head of AI offended many people. While I do not believe his original tweet was intended to be offensive, his response refusing to apologize does not reflect my position or that of Cline. We recognize that this caused real pain, and that deserves recognition and empathy. He is no longer with Cline. While I disagreed with the way he responded, no one deserves the threats and abuse he has received. Please leave him and his family alone. To anyone hurt by this – I am sorry,” Saoud Rizwan posted; and then deleted – sparking speculation about what was happening inside Cline.
