India will host Sri Lanka for five T20Is after the tour of Bangladesh was postponed

India Women will play a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka at home later this month. The change comes after Bangladesh’s white ball tour was postponed in December due to political tensions in their country.

The BCCI confirmed that the free period will now be used to give Harmanpreet Kaur and her team more playing time ahead of a busy 2026 season.

BCCI announces the schedule for the upcoming IDFC FIRST Bank Women’s T20I series as India hosts Sri Lanka for a five-match match next month. The series will start in Visakhapatnam before moving to Thiruvananthapuram for the remaining matches.

The series runs from December 21 to 30. The first two matches will be played in Visakhapatnam. The last three will be held in Thiruvananthapuram.

Here is the schedule for the T20I series between India and Sri Lanka:

  • December 21 – 1st T20I in Visakhapatnam
  • December 23 – 2nd T20I in Visakhapatnam
  • December 26 – 3rd T20I in Thiruvananthapuram
  • December 28 – 4th T20I in Thiruvananthapuram
  • December 30 – December 5 T20I at Thiruvananthapuram

This series of matches is important as India builds towards the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at home. The selectors will announce the squad next week. Many young players are hoping for an opportunity, while seniors want to sharpen their form.

India are coming into this series well. They won the 2025 ODI World Cup at home and followed it up with T20I series wins over the West Indies and England. These results have boosted confidence after a poor group stage exit in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Coaches see this Sri Lanka run as the start of a long build-up. India have tough away games in Australia from February to March and in England from May to June. The WPL 2026 is also in the middle of this cycle, so these matches will help players stay in the rhythm.

Sri Lanka is expected to test India with their spin attack. India will use the series to settle roles, check backup options and give more game time to all-rounders who will be key in home conditions next year.
