ICC questions PCB’s decision on India-Pakistan clash at 2026 T20 World Cup
As reported by News19, the ICC has asked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to explain how the ‘Force Majeure’ clause can be used to skip just one match and still participate in the remainder of the 2026 T20 World Cup in the same country: Sri Lanka.
The global body wants clarity on why the PCB decided to withdraw from the India-Pakistan match only if the decision was actually based on government instructions.

Earlier, the PCB informed the ICC that it would not face India on February 15 in Colombo. They quoted a tweet from the government which reportedly stopped the team from facing India at the mega event.
The claim of force majeure raises serious doubts
With this message, the PCB attempted to activate the ‘Force Majeure’ clause, which is intended for situations beyond the national team’s control. However, this statement has raised serious questions.
The ICC is trying to understand why Pakistan remains available for all other matches in the tournament and is now seeking a detailed response from the PCB. After receiving the formal notice from the ICC, the PCB contacted the governing body to continue discussions on the situation.
Discussions are currently ongoing, with the ICC emphasizing that decisions affecting the tournament must protect the spirit of the game and the competition as a whole. Now all eyes are on the outcome of the discussions in which they try to find a solution.
