The ministry said that “such disrespectful acts hurt the sentiments of followers around the world.” The reaction comes after a statue of the Hindu deity was reportedly destroyed by the Thai army, while border clashes between the neighboring countries continue despite a peace deal.

We once again urge the two sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy, to resume peace and prevent further loss of lives and damage to property and heritage.”
Border conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia

A video showing the statue’s demolition was circulated on social media platforms, sparking an uproar. Earlier in the day, Cambodia also criticized Thailand for demolishing the statue of the Hindu god. Thai authorities have so far not commented on the incident. Border conflicts between the two Southeast Asian countries broke out in July this year. Although a peace deal brokered by US President Donald Trump was signed, fighting resumed earlier this month. Talks are underway to put an end to the deadly clashes between the neighbors.
