“It is advised that the exporters may implement risk mitigation measures or refrain from exporting rice consignments containing residues exceeding the MRLs permitted under EU regulations,” said Vinita Sudhanshu, Managing Director of APEDA.
India’s Agricultural Export Promotion Agency, APEDA, said in a notice that it received a notice on January 22 from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Government of Lebanon informing it that it has imposed specific requirements on imported rice regarding pesticide residues, in accordance with European standards.
Over the past year, several consignments of imported rice were reportedly rejected due to contamination with pesticide residues that exceeded the maximum residue levels (MRLs) allowed under EU regulations, Sudhanshu said. However, she also clarified that no notification/communication has yet been received from the Lebanese authorities regarding the said rejections.
