Shubman was then admitted to Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata where his condition was assessed. The 26-year-old could not continue in the first Test as Rishabh Pant had to take over as stand-in captain. The home side lost by 30 points, failing to chase down a 124-point target on Sunday, November 16.
Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly had visited the hospital to meet Shubman. They also had a 15 minute conversation.
Cricket lovers will be relieved to know that Shubman has been discharged from the hospital. He can now walk and move his neck without much discomfort. According to RevSportz, Shubman was given 4-5 days of rest. However, dark clouds of uncertainty still hang over his participation in the second Test, which will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Shubman will be given a maximum of five days’ rest before the second Test starts on Saturday, November 22. The Indian team desperately needs their captain back in the lineup after the debacle in Kolkata.
Shubman has been in scintillating form in the Test arena since his appointment as captain. He was the highest run-scorer in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England earlier this year. In the recent two-match series at home against West Indies, the Punjab batsman once again showed his skills and scored 192 runs in three innings at an average of 96.
If Shubman does not fully recover before the second Test and has to miss the Test, India will have to choose Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal as his replacement.
