Prince emphasized that having the left-hander in the locker room boosted the morale of the entire team. He also pointed out that the other left-handers in the team have a perfect opportunity to learn from an experienced person.
“He is big, he is huge. With Rohit and Virat coming to the Indian team, I think Quinny probably has a similar effect on our team with his experience, with his quality that we saw in Pakistan. His presence has certainly given the dressing room a boost and we have gotten quite a few young left-handers and quite a few young players into the team. I think that does a lot for their growth when they hang out and have some conversations with him and also be in the middle with him and hit with him. He is a big influence for us,” Prince said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Prince, a top-class batsman in his playing days, spoke about how the management has held discussions with Marco Jansen to adapt to a more attacking role given his batting position in the side.
“I think what’s important for Marco is clarity on how he bats. When you bat at number 8 or number 9, you generally don’t have many partners. So once he gets in, he has to score quickly because he only has one or two partners left. Playing an aggressive role is something we discussed,” he added.
South Africa coming off a Test series win against India. Jansen clinched the Player of the Match award in the second Test in Guwahati for his all-round performance as the Proteas emerged victorious by 408 runs to seal the series.
Talking about the Indian camp, Rohit and Kohli will be the key members to watch out for. They were last seen in the three-match ODI series played in Australia.
The first ODI of the three-match series will be played on November 30 at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
