IND vs NZ 2026: Reports: Shubman Gill brings Rs 3 lakh water purifier amid Indore water crisis

Captain of India Shubman Gill has reportedly brought a water purification machine worth almost INR 3 lakh to Indore ahead of the third and final ODI against New Zealand. The decision to bring the purifier comes amid a serious water pollution crisis in the city, which has already claimed several lives.

Indore, which will host the series decider at the Holkar Stadium, has recently been hit by a major public health crisis caused by contaminated drinking water. The outbreak, reported from the Bhagirathpura area, has resulted in at least 23 deaths, with several patients still being treated in hospitals, according to local reports.

Despite the city’s reputation as one of India’s cleanest urban centers, the crisis has raised serious concerns about water security. Meanwhile, Team India will stay at a five-star hotel with standard RO systems and packaged drinking water packages. However, additional precautions have reportedly been taken at the captain level.

The media manager of the Indian team declined to comment officially on the development

According to NDTV, Gill arranged for a specialized water purification machine worth around INR 3 lakh to be installed in his hotel room. Hotel sources revealed that the device can even re-purify RO treated and packaged bottled water. The machine was reportedly brought specifically to avoid health risks during the team’s stay.

While the media manager of the Indian team declined to comment officially on the development, reports state that the decision was prompted by the ongoing water crisis rather than being part of a routine protocol. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has further ensured strict supervision of players’ food and beverages, including appointing a special chef for the squad.

It’s worth noting that older players are known to follow strict diet and hydration routines. Virat Kohli in particular is known for being extremely careful about his water intake and consuming imported natural spring water.

The water pollution crisis in the city was due to a damaged pipeline of the Narmada water supply system, which reportedly allowed sewage to mix with treated water. The outbreak led to an increase in cases of diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration, overwhelming local hospitals and forcing authorities to take emergency measures.
