IND vs NZ 2026: ‘His method and batting style have changed’ – Ajinkya Rahane’s huge claim over Indian star batsman after 1st ODI

Former India skipper Ajinkya Rahane explained how Virat Kohli has changed his technique and approach to batting in recent times. In the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday, January 11, Kohli top-scored with a 91-ball 93, helping India chase a target of 301 runs in 49 overs.

Rahane believes that Kohli has gone to pacers and spinners much more often than in the past. The Indian batsman believes that Kohli is using this strategy to disrupt the rhythm of the bowlers.

“His method and batting style have changed. He generally doesn’t get out that much against the spinners and fast bowlers. But whatever I have seen in this innings and also in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he is doing that consistently now. He wants bowlers to change their length. That is a great attitude because we have all seen Virat Kohli bat from the crease with his drives, pulls and cuts. But these days he is getting out,” Rahane said. Tickle.

Rahane praises Kohli’s off-field routines

Rahane praised Kohli for his ability to follow off-field routines: eating right, getting enough sleep, exercising and much more. The Mumbai batsman believes that this ability has played a major role in helping Kohli maintain consistency with the bat over the years.

“You talk about consistency, and you talk about Virat Kohli. But as a batsman, when you get runs, people talk about the skills, but actually it’s the routines that are very important. When you play a purple game, the off-field routines are very important. What kind of food you eat, what time you wake up and sleep, all these little things are very important,” says Rahane (via the source mentioned earlier).

“Virat Kohli can do this for a long period of time. It’s very difficult because it’s boring. Eating the same food, waking up at the same time and following the same routines, be it the stretching on the ground and the training sessions, it’s literally boring. Yes, he works hard on his fitness and batting, but his off-field routines are really good. That’s why he has been consistent for so long,” he added.

This turned out to be Kohli’s sixth score of over 50 in ODI cricket. Seven more runs and he would have registered a record-extending 54th ODI century.
