The BCCI has announced India’s 15-member squad for the three-match home ODI series against New Zealand, starting on January 11 in Vadodara. This will be India’s first ODI assignment of 2026.
Shubman Gill will captain while senior batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the ODI line-up. KL Rahul is part of the squad and will also share the wicketkeeping duties with Rishabh Pant.
Shreyas Iyer returns and has been named vice-captain, but his place is subject to final eligibility approval. Iyer is currently completing rehabilitation and needs clearance from the Center of Excellence in Bengaluru before the series opener.
India have rested Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah as part of workload management. With a busy T20 calendar and the T20 World Cup approaching, the team management has opted to carefully manage senior players of all formats.
The pace attack will be led by Mohammed Siraj, with support from Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna. It gives India a mix of experience and youth in the fast bowling department.
In terms of spin and all-round options, the selectors have opted for Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar. Nitish Kumar Reddy adds depth as a pace bowling all-rounder.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been included as an additional top-order option, giving the team flexibility at the top of the batting order. Dhruv Jurel will miss this time as India sticks with Rahul and Pant as wicketkeepers.
The three ODIs will be played on January 11 in Vadodara, January 14 in Rajkot and January 18 in Indore. All matches will start at 1:30 PM IST.
