Ravindra Jadeja’s magical delivery dismantles Aiden Markram’s stumps on day 4
On the 28.1 over of the innings, Jadeja bowled a spectacular delivery to Markram that will be remembered as a classic moment of the Guwahati Test. Jadeja’s ball shot slightly wide off the crease and caught sharply on a length aimed at middle and leg stump. The ball spun past Markram’s forward defensive stroke and uprooted the stump at a speed of 92.4 km per hour, sending the South African opener back to the pavilion having scored 29 runs off 84 balls with 3 boundaries. This wicket was not only crucial in breaking the partnership, but also came at a time when both openers were looking solid, with Ryan Rickelton already back after falling to Jadeja earlier.
With this wicket, both South African openers were dismissed, leaving the visitors at 74/2 and India breathing a little easier despite the huge deficit. Jadeja’s bowling figures at the time were impressive with 7.1 overs bowled, 13 runs conceded and 2 wickets in his spell, demonstrating his crucial role in India’s bowling attack on a tough batting surface.
