South Africa ended an unbeaten group stage with a dominant victory against the United Arab Emirates.
Aiden Markram opted to bowl first and made four changes to the XI. The Proteas tested their bench strength after securing their place in the Super 8.
UAE openers Aryansh Sharma and skipper Muhammad Waseem started brightly, but spin did the trick. George Linde came on and struck in his first over to trap the dangerous Waseem LBW. Shortly afterwards, Corbin Bosch came along and organized a pace bowling masterclass in New Delhi.
The tall right-armer tried to pace the UAE batters, claiming three wickets in a clinically sharp four-over quota.
Alishan Sharafu top scored with 45, but after his dismissal the rest of the innings fizzled out. Despite three fumbles, SA were on point with their bowling tactics. As a result, the UAE would limp and sputter their way to 122/6 at half-time.
Despite completing an easy chase, the Proteas still lost three wickets: Aiden Markram (28 off 11 balls), Quinton de Kock (14 off 16 balls) and Ryan Rickelton (30 off 16 balls). They were 32-1 after three overs, 56-2 after 5.4 overs and 105-3 after 10.4 overs.
This gave Dewald Brevis the opportunity to gain some form heading into the Super Eights. He managed only 36 off 25 balls (1 four, 3 sixes) before losing his wicket, while SA needed 7 to win.
South Africa won by 6 wickets and 40 balls to spare.
