In Gaia’s plan to democratize AI with open infrastructure (exclusive interview)

GAIA works with Samsung to launch a Limited-Edition AI-Native phone, built on the Galaxy S25 Edge. Designed for AI sovereignty, the device enables users to perform large language models directly on devices, thereby eliminating cloud dependence and at the same time offers privacy, property and rewards through its decentralized AI-eco-system.

In this interview, Shasank Sripada, De Coo and co-founder of the project explains how the Gaia Edition Galaxy S25 wants AI-Severeinity to be tangible, so that users offer direct control over their data and digital assistants of the device themselves.

You describe GAIA as “ai sovereignty”. Which means in practical terms for the average user in regions where privacy problems are high, but the technical literacy is low?

AI -sovereignty means control over your data, models and the intelligence that works on your behalf. For users in regions with a high army with limited technical skills, GAIA offers Turnkey domains and agent templates with which someone can implement personal AI tools without giving control to cloud platforms. Practically this means:

Your data will continue to be a conclusion of a conclusion in itself or in a domain that you check.

You choose the agent or now open-source is or refined in your context.

No centralized surveillance reactions have been compiled, auditable and censorship resistant.

Think of it as a signal met chatgpt but driven by you, no cloud monopoly of a trillion dollar.

Some claim that decentralized AI layers will easily recreate centralization under different labels if network participation is limited. How will Gaia avoid this pitfall?

Gaia’s network economy, architecture and governance are specifically designed to resist re-centralization:
Opening the node: everyone can perform a node on mobile or low-power edge devices and use to participate in inference.

Deterministic remuneration distribution: Node rewards are linked to performance and decentralization, non -centralized hosting or capital.

Decentralized domains and agents: value shelter takes place on the edge – which means that builders, not just validators or miners, build up the value.

Governance on-chain: Protocolupgrades and remuneration structures are governed by token holders, not a centralized basis.

In short, participation is low-barrier and structurally distributed. The economic stimuli scale with decentralization, not against it.

What regulatory or legal challenges do you expect GAIA to be confronted with operational AI inference and integrated wallets on the device, especially with legal areas that have strict rules for AI and crypto?

We navigate proactively through this intersection of AI and Crypto with a jurisdiction-conscious architecture:
Inference on the device is comparable to performing local software or using open-source tools-no regulated service in itself. Integrated portfolios follow existing patterns of Dapps and Defi, but we ensure a non-right design, permission from the users and limited data exposure to remain free of financial mediation striggers.

Jurisdictional Fallback: Where necessary, GAIA can implement region -specific ports, disclosures or complementing switches, in particular around KYC, model access and token transfers.

Partnerships with legal advisers in the US, EU and Asia ensure that we meet the evolving AI transparency, consistency and crypto -rules set. Regulation is inevitable – and the modular structure of GAIA makes it adaptable to emerging standards without endangering decentralization.

How does GAIA intend to take in potential regulatory challenges around crypto solutions that are linked to hardware sale, especially in the US, where tokens stimuli can activate the investigation of effects?

The Gaia Edition Galaxy S25 is designed to show what a fully decentralized AI interface looks like – one that is both sovereign due to design and modular through implementation. From a regulatory perspective, Gaia avoids direct complications by ensuring that:

The hardware functions as an open AI device, not as a financial instrument or tokend distribution tool.

Inference on the device is local and privacy retention of relative to the use of offline AI models or Edge apps-no hosted or storage service.

The integration of Web3 infrastructure (wallets, domain management, agent registries) follows non-empire, so that users can communicate with decentralized networks on their conditions.

Crucial is that the Gaia telephone does not require a blockchain interaction to work as a powerful AI assistant. This allows the telephone to be sent worldwide with optional functions that have been concluded or localized on the basis of regional legal standards – to guarantee compliance without endangering the wider vision.

Instead of bed in hardware, Gaia’s approach focuses on enabling users to run private, autonomous AI agents locally – with full transparency, auditability and freedom of centralized gatekeepers.

Consumer education can be a major obstacle for Gaia’s adoption. Practically, how are you going to convince crypto users who are used to portfolios and Defi to trust a decentralized AI telephone, and which stimuli or network effects will encourage them to become node operators?

The Gaia Edition Galaxy S25 is more than a telephone – it is a blueprint for how AI should work in a decentralized world. It provides an experience that is immediately useful, deeply private and intuitively expanded, even for non-technical users.
This is how we solve the consumer onboarding -challenge:

  1. Out-of-the-box utility
The phone comes with in advance installed AI agents on the devices that work from the first day-included smart assistants, workspace pilots and knowledge managers. Users experience low latency, offline ai without logging in to cloud-api’s reducing friction and increasing trust.
  2. Seamless Web3 Integration (without the learning curve)
The mobile stack of GAIA includes a built-in wallet and agent register, but is designed to be opt-in, non-guardianship and user-oriented. Users on board domains, implement their own agents or build automation via visual interfaces, not a smart contract code.
  3. Real-World Relevance and Differentiation: In contrast to typical telephones that outsource intelligence to centralized servers, the GAIA phone enables users to possess their calculation, their data and their decision layer. This appeals to users directly in regions with strong data -sovereignty values, privacy expectations and distrust of platform monopolies.

In fact, the GAIA telephone does not make decentralized AI tangible – not as an abstract concept, but as a daily tool that is faster, safer and smarter than the cloud. It is our most powerful demonstration so far about how Gaia’s infrastructure can scale in the hands of millions – not through ideology, but by use.
