Leicester will play Cheltenham in the third round of the FA Cup on January 10. This is the third time that Leicester plays against The Robins. They last met in the 08/09 season and faced each other in League One.
Leicester defeated Cheltenham 4-0 both times and are also big favorites this time. We looked at players who have been in both camps.
Barry Hayles was loaned to Cheltenham from Leicester in 2008. He played twelve league matches and scored four goals. A season later he signed a permanent contract. He stayed at Cheltenham until 2010. In total he played 51 league games for Cheltenham and scored 11 goals.
One player to count is the defender Josh Debayo. He joined Cheltenham from Leicester in 2018. Midfielder Callum Wright spent time on loan at Cheltenham during his days at Leicester.
Subject from Leicester Michael Antonio spent time on loan at Cheltenham. This was when he played for Reading. A total of 9 league games for The Robins.
Johnny Hayes spent the 08-09 season at Cheltenham on loan from Leicester. A total of nine league games during his short stay. Elvis Hammond is another player who joined Leicester from Cheltenham in 2009. He spent two years on Whaddon Road. 46 league games and 9 goals for the striker.
Defender Darren Kenton also have a life in both camps. Kenton joined Cheltenham from Leeds in 2008. He played 13 league games for The Robins in a short time and joined American Rochester Rhinos in 2010. Kenton played for Leicester from 2006 to 2008. A total of 33 league games and two goals.
Flank midfielder Ben Marshall is also someone with a life in both camps. Marshall had a short loan spell at Cheltenham in 2009 and was loaned from Stoke.
Well-traveled goalkeeper Carl Muggleton was another player who played for Leicester and Cheltenham. He joined them in 2001 and stayed there until 2002. Only seven league games. Muggleton played at Leicester for nine years (1985-1994), but spent a lot of time on loan. A total of 46 league games for Leicester in those years.
During his early days at Bristol City, Leicester midfielder Bobby De Cordova-Reid had a short stay on Whaddon Road. This was in 2011, when only one league match took place. Defender Lathaniel Rowe-Turner also played for Cheltenham in one league match, on loan from Leicester.
Australian midfielder James Wesolowski had a spell at Cheltenham. He played four league games for them, on loan from Leicester in 2008–09.
There are still a few Leicester connections. Martin Allen And Steve Cotterill both had short spells at Leicester with managerial experience from Cheltenham. Cotterill (61) is their current man in charge. Kevin Russell was agent here in 2023.
