It was the night of the big statements in Addington on Friday.
Two young horses in Jumal (Downby theseaside) and Ya Rite Darl (What the hill) Messages sent to their age group Racing Rivals in two of the best races in the meeting and it was perhaps the one who actually triumphed through the smaller margin who left the biggest impression.
Jumal was unbeaten and went into the latest Woodlands Sires’ Stakes Heat, but it seemed his biggest challenge, pulled the outside of the front line with two very talented rivals in Zeus Lightning and special occasion pulled into him.
Director Samantha Ottley made a short work by leaning ahead at the start and although she did not have to ask Jumal for his best, he soon worked over the front of the field.
The race could have seen that convert into a procession until Blair Orange Zeus Lightning launched to start the final round, but Ottley was awake for his approaching challenge, so Jumal slipped and he ran in 26.5 seconds along the back, rarified air for every 400m-sectional from the center in New.
That opened the holes, so Zeus Lightning could fall into the path, but Ottley just continued and Jumal, too, never in danger to a defeat, while Zeus Lightning’s fan club will only have been extended while he was brave to second place.
Jumal Replay
Special occasion has so far been in third place in one of the youth races of the season so far and one suggested that the first two are very good horses, but maybe Jumal is the real deal.
“I didn’t really go in the race with a plan, but when I looked at the start and saw a few who didn’t come out, I let him run out a bit,” Ottley said.
“He made it so easy to get there and when I saw Zeus Lightning coming along the back, I decided to let him run again.
“He may have closed us at the finish, but I think if he actually let another horse go with him, he would have more more.”
Jumal turns into a real excitement machine for his connections and trainer Steven Reid, a horse reminder of Reid’s skills during the sale and in the stables.
Next stop for most of the most important players from last night in the NZBS Harness Million in Addington on October 10 and Jumal is now $ 2.10 to win that and $ 2.20 for the use of the Sires on Cup Day.

Ya Rite Darl may not have had the same level of competition in the use of the Macca Lodge NZ Sires classes, especially after the second favorite Habibti Pat galloped at the start, but she destroyed her marey.
Sent directly forward by John Dunn, she roared on the back and won with 12 and half lengths, one of the biggest victories in a group race in Addington this century.
The Times were not overly flashes, but it was still a brilliant victory and one that suggested that she will be taken seriously in both the climb and NZ that trotting oak.
Earlier in the night, the Kyvalley Ray, trained by Brent Lilley Ray, won his debut in New Zealand in a youthful Trot Sires’ commitment, while Cath was super impressive to win the two-year-old Pacing Fillies Race for the hills, Benny Training and Seth Rij.
The father and son team were back in the most important handicap ppo when Arthur Shelby conquered some early tap dancing to win a late charging Rubira, the winner confirmed what we all suspected for a while: he goes to Open Class.
