Celebrities got their first taste of camp life and the trials to come, while there were fewer surprises in this year’s premiere episode.
There are all kinds of dangers in the jungle… spiders, snakes and scorpions.
And then there are leaks. The kind that comes from pre-recording an entire season rather than airing it live.
10 celebrities participated I’m a celebrity, get me out of here last night at 10 and they were all mentioned in the press.
Two were tipped on Friday, but some radio stations chose to leak the whole thing, probably including the messages that were yet to come.
Nevertheless, it was a nice premiere with another mix of gruesome trials and surprised looks from campmates who clumsily tried to recognize each other if they had NFI. Or Luke Bateman telling Rachel Hunter he thinks he’s heard the name Rod Stewart. Serious?
Rebekah Elmaloglou and Deni Hines bowing to Barry Williams, aka ‘Greg Brady’, was almost as priceless as Chrissie Swan recognizing Maureen McCormick, aka ‘Marcia Brady’ in S1.
Special points to Concetta Caristo for surviving the ‘toughest’ serious trial of Gary Sweet and Dyson Heppell.

One benefit of the pre-record is the deft way this season will shake up the show’s structure.
Julia Morris said: “What they’ve done this year is create a series of cliffhangers. So what you think you know about the show and how the show is going is not necessarily how it’s going to go.”
“Maybe one night we’ll see some of the trial. Taking people (audiences) from one show to the next is what we want to do. I think once everyone tunes in to episodes one and two, they won’t be able to resist.
“It’s a perfect time for you and your friends, or it’s a perfect show to sit and laugh by yourself, and it’s a perfect show to sit and watch with your family, where you might not have to explain what certain sexual positions are….
“There aren’t many shows on the air that you can sit down with your very tall kids and watch. With everyone on multiple screens, there are very few shows that bring you together in the living room, but this is certainly one of them.”
