Julia Morris says George Calombaris will influence the jungle camp and tell his own controversial story in his own words.

In one of television’s worst kept secrets Master chef Judge George Calombaris becomes an interloper in I’m a celebrity, get me out of here on Sunday evening.

The controversial chef, whose Made Establishment underpaid hundreds of millions in wages to staff, has been the subject of constant headlines and criticism.

While he was previously in The Masked Singer at 10, in the South African jungle, he will have a lot more to say.

“The great thing about our intruder is that we now hear his story from his own mouth,” says host Julia Morris Television tonight.

“And I think that will be revealing. You know, one person writes an article, and then everyone bounces back to it at different times, and it becomes fifteen articles, just beyond that one article.

“But to hear the story from the invader’s mouth and the addition he’s going to make to the camp, I think this is definitely one of my favorite parts of the series. I even thought I knew this person, but getting people’s own stories with the way it happened for them I think is a great window into that separation sometimes between the fast food media and the truth.”

Celebrities opening up about their pasts and exchanging insights are one of the show’s secret sauces.

“Most of our celebrities, whether they’re young or old, have had all kinds of major life moments that I think our audience will definitely connect with,” says Morris.

“I want to hear real people talking about real things. What have you been through? Were you raised by a solo mom? What was that like? A lot of solo moms have raised a lot of our celebrities. So we’re going to hear people like Luke (Bateman) encouraging other men to speak out about trying to support women in as many ways as possible and not be that guy walking behind you. You’re going to hear that from a young person with a football background, a man of the world, a beautiful Australian boy.

“This is a group of celebrities who are used to speaking in global media and doing interviews. But they are also very in touch with their authentic side, and the honesty they come out with will help people who watch the show and say, ‘That’s me,’ or ‘I’m being bullied at school,’ or ‘I have a difficult family member who doesn’t need to be around me.'”

This season will also see the cast clash, with one even leaving the show next week. After all, TV loves conflict.

“It’s not a liturgical dance. Absolutely. I think the one thing we stand out for is humor through adversity. I think not just Australians, but globally everyone has been going through quite a difficult time. I’m not sure I’m that interested in seeing people come together and fight. Because I could remarry if I wanted to see that,” Morris suggests.

“There are plenty of ‘You’re getting on my nerves.’ There are plenty of those. But we all find it difficult to live in a house with someone, with people we love!

“But there’s not too many roosters, which is good. You know, there’s not too much bow, thank God.”
