“We’re not leaving, but time has come,” said Davis.
The Illinois representative of the Democrat, Danny Davis, recently announced that this will be his last term of office.
According to the Associated Press, Davis will not be in search of Re -election to the congress in the next election cycle. He represents a district with the center of Chicago, including large parts of the south and west side of the city, and suburbs of the inner ring. Davis has been the representative of the district since 1996.
The 83-year-old politician has been a mainstay after 15 terms in office. He is in the House Committee on Ways and Means.
“We are not leaving,” Davis told the media at a recent press conference where he was accompanied by his wife, local pastors and congress members on the west side of Chicago. “But time has come.”
Davis is simply the newest politician who has announced plans not to go for the same office in the next elections in the state of Illinois. Other Illinois politicians had previously said their intentions to withdraw their names from the upcoming elections.
Rep. Jan Schakowsky said she will not look for 15th term in the house, while Senator Dick Durbin, no. 2 Democrat of the Senate, provides a sixth term in 2026. Reps. Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly give up their seats to make a run for one in the Senate.
He has stated that he wants to place younger heads in positions of the good in upcoming elections, “who can grow into leadership.” He promises that he will campaign for younger politicians in 2026. He wants to ensure that “tyrants such as Donald Trump” do not eliminate the efforts he and others over the years with their attempts to take away the things they have fought over the years.
“There are currently efforts to try to reduce Medicare, Medicaid,” he said. “If those programs are seriously reduced, thousands and thousands and thousands of people do not have access to health care.”
