The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal arrested a notorious illegal weapon manufacturer from Bihar on Saturday. The STF has acted on a tip and arrested the 40-year-old MD Firdous Alam, also known as Laddu, a resident of Mafassil in Munger District, a region that has long been known as a hub for illegal weapons.
The arrest took place near the HP petrol pump in Palasdiha, along the Asansol-Gourandi road, opposite the old Burnpur Cement Factory, under the jurisdiction of the Asansol North Police Station.
The STF grabbed a large cache of illegal firearms and ammunition of the suspect, who is said to be a veteran in the production of semi-automatic illegal firearms. Alam had traveled to West Bengal to deliver the weapons himself when he was intercepted.
During the operation, the special task force recovered an important cache of illegal poor and ammunition. The seized items include five single-shot pipe guns, two 9 mm pistols together with two matching magazines and two 7 mm pistols accompanied by four magazines.
A total of six guns were recovered – two compatible with 9 mm pistols and four suitable for 7 mm pistols. In addition, officers have seized four living cartridges of 9 mm caliber and ten living cartridges of 7.65 mm of caliber.
A case is registered at the police station of Asansol North and a detailed investigation is underway by the STF.
