The Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav has drawn attention to the persistent Nepal-Onrust against the now shipping KP Sharma Oli government and has warned that India could see comparable events if ‘voice chori’ would continue in the country.
On Friday, Yadav tackled a press conference in Lunkknow and referred to the current political revolution in Nepal, where widespread violent demonstrations have resulted in more than 50 fatalities and massive damage to public property.
“If such a voice theft continues to take place, it can, just like the people who are seen on the street in neighboring countries, can also be seen here,” said Yadav, while Nepal is recovering from days of violent anti-corruption fighting that have led to the dismissal of top Nepali leaders and a regime change.
The recent protests from Nepal started about a ban on social media, but quickly snowed in a broader violent anti-corruption movement.
The unrest resulted in burning the houses of top ministers, the parliament, the Supreme Court of the country, in addition to other important installations.
In the meantime, conversations are also underway to form an interim government, with Sushila Karki and Kulman Ghising among the proposed leaders.
Apart from Nepal, the neighboring Afghanistan of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Bangladesh have witnessed in recent years of similar protests and changes in regime.
Yadav emphasized the need for free and honest elections and noted: “The Supreme Court has given the instructions from time to time. We are confident that the election committee will follow their instructions. It will not be the improvised committee of the BJP. Performing injury elections is a responsibility.”
‘Voice Chori’ from the opposition claims
Various India Bloc parties, including the congress led by Rahul Gandhi, have accused the BJP and the Chief Election Commission of collaboration to do ‘voting choir’ in various elections in states such as Karnataka, Hharashtra and Gujarat.
Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, recently accused the BJP and the water level panel of manipulating elections through the voting list. He claimed that the BJP polls wins through a systematic process of “stealing” votes.
The SP chef also emphasized earlier incidents of alleged election malpraktijk and claimed: “With regard to the allegations of voice theft against Sanjeev Balyan’s own colleagues, I say that this is a big question, and the election committee must ensure that such a voice theft happens nowhere.”
He further referred to earlier elections and said: “The country knows when they could not win here because of voice theft, after which they put their own caste to the efforts and revolvers.”
“In the Kundarki elections there were no instructions for the DM and SP? The Rampur elections, the Meerapur elections,” he pointed to local elections and doubted the lack of supervision.
Yadav repeated his caution and stated: “If such a voice theft takes place, then it can, just like the people who are seen on the street in neighboring countries, are also seen here”.
He added that India’s foreign policy has failed and emphasizes that the government must concentrate on improving relations with its neighboring countries.
