In a strategic step to strengthen India audit, accounting and consultancy firms, the Prime Minister (PMO )’s office defends their growth, so that the Institute of Chartered Accountants or India (ICAI) leads to guidelines for ‘overseas network’. This initiative is intended to create a regulation framework that promotes the development of professional networks for Indian Chartered Accountancy (CA) companies, so that they can compete more effectively on both domestic and international fronts.
The Icai emphasizes the need for this framework and explains: “It is a need to open Ca’s profession for a more globalized environment where India could not afford to get itself isolated.”
These proposed guidelines will enable Icai members of the members to collaborate with overseas networks, both in India and abroad. The concept outlines important aspects such as registration, changes in the constitution and annual returns and mandates that each overseas network indicates a nodal officer responsible for compliance with ICAI guidelines.
This urge for worldwide competitiveness is part of a broader effort to help Indian companies against international giants such as EY, PWC, KPMG and Deloitte. In addition to the overseas network guidelines, revised guidelines for the merger and demerger of CA companies and new guidelines for the aggregation of limited liability partners (LLPs).
The aggregation guidelines, published in January, promote an LLP (an Indian CA company) to collaborate with another LLP or CA company and offers a powerful tool for strategic growth. This enables companies to expand the possibilities, to increase the presence of the market and achieve operational efficiency by combining resources and diversifying services. FAQs for these LLP guidelines will be expected soon.
The revised merger and demer godlines of the ICAI are aimed at streamlining processes and removing practical obstacles that previously hinded CA companies to pursue such strategic consolidations. In order to further facilitate these collaborations, the regulator also develops a special network portal to help connect members, share resources and use complementary strengths by networking, mergers, partnerships and collaborations.
This extensive approach underlines the government’s dedication, with the main secretary of the Prime Minister, Shaktikanta Das, who foreseen a meeting to brainstorm about these issues, which led to the formation of a committee under business secretary, Depti Gaur Mukerjee, to suggest further paths.
