‘Look, here I am. I was meant to die in March, and I’m very sorry, I didn’t want that.”

Legendary Neighbors Veteran Ian Smith has given an update on his health following a cancer diagnosis.

Stressing the importance of early detection of cancer, he stressed the need for men to prioritize their health, urging them to get early screening.

“Look, here I am. I was supposed to die in March, and I’m really sorry, I didn’t want to do that. But I don’t want to make light of it, because very, very good people at Cabrini Hospital have done a lot. And a few years ago I would have died in March, but no… it was discovered, I think, and I think that’s the answer to cancer, getting it early. So guys, don’t be so damn tough and afraid of what’s going to happen. Go to your doctor,” he said.

He added: “I didn’t think I’d be here last Christmas if I’m completely honest. And now I’m here for this Christmas, and I see no reason why I’m not here for next Christmas… I wish I hadn’t said that.”

Ian Smith was diagnosed with pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma in 2024, a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer.
