Over the course of my life, I have always been serious about my sunglasses. I still remember buying my first pair in high school at the Armani outlet in Cabazon, California. What a feeling! When I was in college, flushed from my summer job, I bought a pair of rhinestone-encrusted Chanels. I harped and hurried for weeks before I pulled the trigger. Wearing them made me feel like a million dollars, but I was always terrified of losing them or damaging them in some way.
As the years passed, my tastes moved more toward function than form. I became a mother and my sunglasses became a child’s toy. They often slipped or got grabbed from my head, and were routinely dropped, scratched and damaged seemingly immediately. I realized that I couldn’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on designer frames if I couldn’t reliably maintain them.
Needless to say, I no longer own any Chanels or Armanis. Instead, I’ve been on a near-constant search for stylish yet affordable frames that feed my need for fashion, but don’t give me palpitations every time they clatter out of the car into the parking lot.
That’s a lot of backstory to set up this reveal: Earlier this year I received a few samples from a new sunglasses brand: WMP glasses. (The WMP stands for (W)orn and (M)ade with (P)urpose.) The frame styles were exactly what I was always looking for: trendy and slightly oversized with a subtle cat-eye shape. They are lightweight and durable with crystal clear lenses. I was an instant fan.
In the months since I received them, each pair has been excellent, and I have worn them literally everywhere, including on the golf course. They are super comfortable, even under a hat. And even though I’ve dropped them dozens of times, I still somehow can’t find a scratch. And the best part? They are available at a price that doesn’t make them feel too precious. For the price of one ‘designer pair’ you can get six or more cool styles from WMP Eyewear.
I’ve worn their lifestyle models, but they have golf specific options tooendorsed by US Open champion Wyndham Clark.
In short, I’m very happy to have found a brand that ticks all the boxes when it comes to what I’m looking for in sunglasses that I can wear both on and off the court. And if you’re looking for a new pair of sunglasses, I’m sure you’ll find a style you’ll love too.
