‘I say it every time…’ Harry Redknapp talks to Newcastle United

Harry Redknapp has talked about Newcastle United.

The former Spurs and West Ham manager discusses NUFC as we reach the halfway point of the season.

Newcastle United is still active on four fronts.

The next month could well determine where this season goes, with big games in the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

First and foremost, however, the focus is very much on the Premier League, with Eddie Howe and his players knowing that a win at Anfield would see them rise above reigning champions Liverpool in the PL.

A brilliant performance in midweek left United so unlucky as to not win against PSG, with Harry Redknapp stating; “It’s been a strange season for Newcastle but they played well in Paris and on another night they might have even stolen all three points.”

I don’t think there would have been any theft.

PSG gave Newcastle United a very difficult time in the opening 25 minutes, but then United grew into the match and by the time they equalized just before half-time, they gave as good as they got.

In the second half, while PSG had plenty of possession, they were completely out of ideas and energy, with Newcastle United comfortably the better and more dangerous team as they repeatedly counter-attacked with purpose.

Now it is another very tough away match and tonight at Anfield, Harry Redknapp tells BetVictor; “I say it every time this match happens, it’s hard for me not to think about those classic games of the past. Liverpool looked much better during the week, but let’s be honest, it was hardly a test for them. Maybe I’m too nostalgic, but I’ll go for another 4-3. Imagine!”

Yes…imagine that.

Eddie Howe’s team were by far the better team at Wembley on March 16, 2025 and Liverpool were fortunate to only lose 2-1.

Speaking of luck, United have had very little luck under Eddie Howe when it comes to meeting this fate and perhaps that will change tonight. Newcastle have been brilliant this season with 11 AND 10 men against the scousers at St James’ Park, a travesty that Liverpool won that. The 3-3 at SJP last season was another that Newcastle deserved to win, while Alexander Isak’s debut was another, as he opened the scoring at Anfield and was then denied a second due to a highly questionable VAR offside ruling, before Liverpool recorded a very late 2-1 win.

Just 24 days ago, Newcastle United fans experienced the thrill of a 4-3 late victory after trailing Leeds three times.

Maybe we can repeat that at Anfield tonight, although I’d be taking away a ‘boring’ 1-0 win if I offered it now…
