Hansi Flick was not in the mood to praise Barcelona after their 3-0 victory over Mallorca in Laliga, and accused his side of playing at 50% after their hosts had been reduced to nine men.
Barca made a winning start of their deficiency defense on Saturday, with Raphinha and Ferran Torres who struck in the first 23 minutes before Lamine Yamal was added a late third.
But that hardly starts to tell the story of the game, as Mallorca Manu Morlanes had and sent Muriqi before half -time.
Morlanes received his second yellow card for chopping Yamal in full flight, while Muriqi’s resignation was seriously cheating after he caught the new Barca goalkeeper Joan Garcia in the face with a high boot.
The Blaugrana held Mallorca back during the second half, shot 17 shots from a total of 1.43 expected goals (XG) and hit the target with six, although they did not add a third goal until the fourth minute of the stop time.
And Flick was not happy with the application of his players with a two -man benefit, and said Movistar: “I didn’t like the game. They are three important points, but I didn’t like the game.
“After it went 2-0 and with the red cards, the team played with 50% and I didn’t like it at all. We’ll talk about it.
“Of course I didn’t like it, we had control over the ball and the game. We have to score and that is all we can say. It is not possible to play with 50 or 60%, even against nine players.
“It was a bit strange, it is not normal that in the first half of a team of two players, we knew how to play the game. We would have liked the third goal earlier.”
There was also a large controversy around Barca’s second goal, in which Torres chose the top corner while Mallorca defender Antonio Raillo was on the floor, hit by a bright Yamal -shot.
The players of Mallorca protested furiously against awarding the goal and said the game should have been stopped, but Flick said that his players could do nothing but play the whistle.
“I always tell the team that we should play until the referee stops,” he said. “Of course it is a referee decision and we have to accept it.”
Mallorca coach Jagoba Arrasate was furious because the goal was given and said that referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero had ruined the game.
“With nine it is impossible. The only positive is the effort of the team and the support of the people,” he said.
“We will have to take care of the product … People pay € 100 and watch 25 minutes of a competition. The fourth civil servant told Montero for me to stop that it was a blow to the head.
“I thought he had blown the whistle, then I saw that he hadn’t done that. I have to hallucinate a bit. When they talk to us, they say you have to be careful with the head.
“It has shocked me a lot. When the ball touches you in the head, you are sometimes dizzy. I couldn’t believe it when I saw that the ball was returning to the center circle.”
Barcelona will visit Levante for their second game of the season next Saturday, while Mallorca hosts Celta Vigo.
