A 10-year-old child is among 15 people killed by two gunmen on Bondi Beach on Sunday afternoon.
Family and friends pay tribute to the victims of the shooting targeting the Jewish community celebrating the first day of Hanukkah.

NSW Police have not officially identified the victims, but some family members have given permission for details to be published.

Matilda

The youngest victim, 10-year-old Matilda, died in hospital after being shot.
Her aunt Lina has described Matilda as a happy child who smiled, was friendly and enjoyed life.

“[I] I love my niece so much I can’t believe she’s gone.”

Peter Meagher

Meagher was a retired police officer and a much-loved figure at Randwick Rugby Club, the club said in a tribute to “Marzo”.
In a statement, general manager Mark Harrison said Meagher, a first-grade team manager and volunteer with the club, worked as a freelance photographer during Sunday’s Hanukkah event.
The club’s home base is in the beachside suburb of Coogee, approximately 4km south of Bondi Beach.
Harrison described Meagher as an “absolute legend in our club”.

“With decades of voluntary involvement, he was one of the heart and soul figures of Randwick Rugby.”

“The Meagher family are absolute royalty at our club, with Marzo following in the gigantic Myrtle Green footsteps of his grandfather – the legendary Wally Meahger – and his father Ron, who was a former club chairman,” Harrison said.

He noted Meagher had served in the NSW Police Force for almost four decades and retired as a detective officer. He was also a long-term referee in club rugby in Sydney.
“The tragic irony is that he spent so long as a police officer on the dangerous front line and when he retired he was shot, while taking pictures in his passion role is really hard to fathom.

“Our deepest condolences go out to his wife Virginia, his brothers Greg, David, Andrew and Paul, their extended families and a mountain of friends in Randwick Rugby, NSW Police, Sydney Rugby Referees and our local community.”

And Elkayam

French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed Elkayam was among those killed at Bondi Beach.
Rockdale Ilinden FC, based in Sydney’s south, paid tribute to the Premier League 1 footballer, saying he was an integral team member.

“[He] was an extremely talented and popular figure among teammates,” the club said in a Facebook post.

Rabbi Feivel (Eli) Schlanger

Schlanger was among those killed in the attack, his cousin, Rabbi Zalman Lewis, wrote on Instagram.
“He is survived by his wife and young children, as well as my uncle, aunt and siblings,” wrote Lewis, who lives in Britain.

“He really was an incredible guy.”

Schlanger’s brother-in-law, Rabbi Mandel Kastel, told SBS News that the news was “devastating” and “shattering.”
“He was warm, he was engaging, he was interesting, he was curious about people,” he said of his relative.
Schlanger had worked as a chaplain for Corrective Services NSW since 2022, according to the department.
