‘I am ashamed’: Captain ex-US Ryder Cup apologizes for ‘Rude’ Bethpage fans

Despite the early dominance of the European team and the Mighty Sunday Charge of the Americans, the Ryder Cup 2025 will be the most reminded of unmanageable fans at Bethpage Black.

Tuesday, Watson After to X.com To first congratulate the triumphant European team, “I would congratulate @RIJDERCUUROPE on their victory. Your team will play sensational for the first few days.”

But he quickly continued to criticize the behavior of fans.

“What is even more important,” wrote Watson, “I would like to apologize for the rude and common behavior of our American crowd at Bethpage.”

Then he continued and stated that he “ashamed” for what happened during the weekend.

“As a former player, captain and as an American, I am ashamed of what happened,” Watson wrote.

Although some fans were certainly out of hand at Bethpage Black, and perhaps the event has been affected forever, it does not offer a complete picture of the American side.

The American players acted with class and respect all week, both amidst the chaos on the course and after their loss. European star McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood gave so much to Golf’s Michael Bamberger during their celebration Sunday evening, where you can read everything about it.
