Hydro Mega Project: GOVT approves RS 8,000 Crore Tato-II project well in Arunachal; To bring 12% free power and large local development – Times of India

The government of the Union approved a large investment on Tuesday with a value of more than RS 8,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh, making the state’s power and infrastructure sector a big boost. The Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, punished the construction of the 700 MW TATO-II Hydro-Electric project in the Shi Yomi district.According to a press release, the project is estimated to be completed within 72 months and costs RS 8,146.21 Crore.According to the agreement, Arunachal Pradesh receives 12% free electricity and another 1% for the Local Area Development Fund (LADF).With an installed capacity of 700 MW (4 x 175 MW), the Hydro project is expected to generate 2,738.06 million energy units, which will help strengthen the electricity supply in the state and also helps to balance the national grid.The project will be implemented by a joint venture between North Eastern Electric Power Corporation LTD (Neepco) and the government of Arunachal Pradesh. The center offers RS 458.79 Crore as budgetary support for the construction of roads, bridges and a corresponding transmission line under making infrastructure possible, together with central financial aid of RS 436.13 Crore to the share of the state.The explanation added that the project “would produce significant infrastructure improvement and socio-economic development of the region.”Infrastructure upgrades include approximately 32.88 kilometers of new roads and bridges, which will be largely available for local use. The district will also see the development of essential facilities such as hospitals, schools, market places and playgrounds, financed from special project funds from RS 20 Crore.The project is tailored to the objectives of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Absiyan, promising benefits for local suppliers, companies and MSMEs, as well as both direct and indirect employment opportunities.Local communities are also expected to be linked to the project from different forms of compensation, job creation and social responsibility activities of the business community.
