After a delay of an hour long rain, the game started as a duel of a pitcher. Both Hunter Greene and Phillies -Starter Christopher Sánchez had three scoreless innings. The Reds broke through in the fourth inning when Austin Hays pulled a two-out walk and Noelvi Marte doubled the left field line. Marte was eventually thrown in third place, but not before Hays scored to make the score at 1-0.
In the meantime, Hunter Greene has acted in his first start since 3 June. He threw 85 throws in six innings, allowing only three hits and no runs to allow six batters. He didn’t allow any walk either. Greene had a few huge strikeouts to get out of innings with runners on the base, also in the third when the Phillies had their best chance to score. After back-to-back bloop singles, Greene Schwarber froze with a 101 mph Fastball in the middle of the zone for strike three to end the inning.
The Reds extended the lead to 4-0 in the sixth inning, with a little help from the poor defense of the Phillies. After a Spencer handlebar fly away, Elly de la Cruz hit a single. One from later Hays doubled to the left. De la Cruz easily scored from the first that Brandon Marsh played the ball wrong. One batter later Marte hit a single in Hays and came all the way to score after two throwing errors. Marte hit 2-out-4 with one run scored and two RBI and now hits the season.
Graham Ashcraft, Scott Barlow, Sam Moll and Emilio Pagan combined for three scoreless innings from the bullpen to finish the game.
Important moment of the game
The Reds effectively put the game out of reach in the seventh inning after they loaded the bases on a Ke’bryan Hayes Walk and two singles from TJ Friedl and De la Cruz. Miguel Andujar stepped on the plate and crushed a ball just over the left field wall for a large slam by Jordan Romano.
Notes worth mentioning
-Green was on average 99.3 km / h on his fastball, but he really had the slider that worked tonight. He threw it 32 times and let the Phillies wave and missed nine times out of 18 swings for a touch of 50%.
-Christopher Sánchez had only allowed six points in 29.2 innings for a 1.82 ERA that came in his start tonight. Tonight he allowed three points in six innings and his era jumped from 2.36 to 2.45.
-Miguel Andujar’s Grand Slam in the seventh inning was the third of his career. His other two Grand Slams were both hit in 2018 during his Rookie season with the New York Yankees.
-The La Cruz and Hays both quietly had a really solid games. De la Cruz hit 2-out-4 with two points scored and Hays hit 1-out-3 with an RBI and a coupling walk to set up the initial scored run.
