Hull City are not pursuing a new move for Aston Villa striker Louie Barry this winter, as detailed in a report from HullLive.
Hull City have once again been linked with a move for the Premier League striker ahead of the January transfer window via a report from BBC Sports. HCAFC wasn’t the only team mentioned in the report; Stoke City, Derby County and Oxford United also became interested.
Barry, 22, has spent the first half of this season on loan at the club Championship at Sheffield United but has now returned to Aston Villa for treatment of an injury. He has not scored in nine games for the Blades and has struggled to make an impact at Bramall Lane.
In this latest update on his situation, HullLive has poured cold water on his chances of a return to the MKM Stadium next month. They have reported that there is ‘no truth’ to talk that he could return to East Yorkshire for a second time.
The Tigers are on the cusp of the play-offs after their 2-1 win away at Stoke City last time out and are just one point behind the top six behind Bristol City in sixth place. Semi Ajayi and Joe Gelhardt scored against the Potters.
Hull City’s position on Louie Barry’s return
Hull City currently has sufficient attacking options. If everyone is fit, HCAFC will have the likes of Gelhardt, Oli McBurnie, Mohamed Belloumi, Liam Millar, Kyle Joseph, Enis Destan, Joel Ndala and David Akintola.
The Tigers landed Barry Signed on a temporary basis from Aston Villa just over 12 months ago under former head coach Ruben Selles, who later took him to Sheffield United. However, the attacker suffered an injury after just four games and did not play again in the past campaign.
Barry, a former England youth international, has been on the books of Aston Villa since 2020 after spells at West Brom and Barcelona. Since then, he has made one appearance for the Premier League club’s first team.
He was a goal scorer during two stints at Stockport County, firing 25 goals in 46 games for the Hatters under Dave Challinor. The Midlands native has also been loaned out to Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons and Salford City in the past.
Louie Barry’s Sheffield United stats
What next for Louie Barry after Sheffield United’s flop?
Barry needs to go somewhere where he is guaranteed regular minutes. His moves to both Hull City and Sheffield United have not worked out for him in the second tier so far.
He may feel like he has something to prove at that level. Stoke City, Derby County and Oxford United have all been mentioned as potential suitors.
The Potters and the Rams are aiming for a place in the top six. Meanwhile, the U’s are trying to stay afloat under Gary Rowett.
